Healthy Aging: Instructor-Led Training Module
The Design Process
The Problem and Solution
As part of a community initiative, Dr. Caldwell, a psychologist, was asked to give a presentation to the local elderly citizens. The focus, decided upon by the stakeholders and Dr. Caldwell, was to be centered on decreasing cognitive decline in the aging community members. Dr. Caldwell contacted me to help her design a slide deck that would assist in the interactivity of the presentation, but that would also help to guide the intern during the course. Together, Dr. Caldwell and I developed four objectives for the course. Then, I designed an eLearning module that can easily be used by the facilitator for guidance on their speaking points, but that can also engage the audience with interactive elements. The facilitator will have the option to turn off the narration if they feel they do not need it for guidance throughout the presentation.
Purposeful Slide Design
I designed this eLearning module with the intent for it to be used simultaneously with a facilitator present. Many of the slides have a short narration, however, they allow plenty of "space" for a facilitator to have a great deal of their own input verbally. Additionally, many slides contain an interactive component, which can be used to engage the learning audience, as a whole. While the intent is for this module to be used in coordination with an instructor, it would also be possible for an independent learner to gain knowledge through this course.
Facilitator Guide
After creating the course in Articulate Storyline, I worked on creating a guide for the facilitator. This guide contains a structured time line for presentation of the course, along with activities to be intertwined amongst the content of the eLearning module. Those activities were designed to increase learner engagement, provide learner guidance and to elicit performance from the learner. This will allow the facilitator to provide the appropriate feedback and to modify the content of the course, if necessary.
